Neighborhood Beat: Bushwick’s Art Galleries

On this past week’s episode of Neighborhood Beat: Bushwick, host Aaron Watkins took viewers into the community’s art spaces. For those not in the know about Bushwick’s incredible art scene, this episode exposed the incredibly diverse and amazing talents that reside and create in the neighborhood.

The following segments feature three of the galleries that were on this episode: Pocket Utopia, Norte Maar and Lumenhouse.

First, a combo segment about Austin ThomasPocket Utopia and the incredibly diverse art that can be seen at Norte Maar. At Pocket Utopia, artists converge in a store-front art space that holds more than meets the eye. The name conveys exactly what’s inside: an ideal work space and collaboration between some of Bushwick’s most unique artists.

And learn about Norte Marr, an organization for “Collaborative Projects in the Arts” that “creates, promotes and presents collaborations within the disciplines of visual, literary and the performing arts: connecting visual artists, choreographers, composers, writers and other originating artists with venues and each other.” Indeed!:

Wow! Aren’t those places great?! Catching glimpses of the art on display in these galleries should make you want to learn more about the events that they have coming up, huh? Wait no longer and check out pocketutopia.com and nortemaar.org.

AH! Before you go clicking those links, you should also take a tour of Bushwick’s Lumenhouse art space, run by owners (and artists) Marshall Coles and Aurora Robson.  This space encompasses all types of art: photography, visual and of the performance variety. Recently the Bushwick community came together to raise funds for this space to insure that their neighborhood gallery stays right where it is and continues to be a venue of inspiration for all that enter.
