HAPPY 200th EPISODE, BROOKLYN REVIEW!

Wow!!!! 200 HUNDRED EPISODES! Well done, Brooklyn Review!

On this episode of Brooklyn Review, we investigate how the nation’s largest oil spill might be related to serious health issues for Newtown Creek residents… 50 years later; then we dissect the recent concessions and changes to developer Bruce Ratner’s Atlantic Yards project; reminisce with the owner of a historic record store in Park Slope as he prepares to pull up roots; reflect with Brooklynites on the loss of music icon Michael Jackson; attend the annual Mermaid Parade in Coney Island; and Fred Brown takes us ‘Around Town’ with courtside seats at a father and son basketball tournament sponsored by Brooklyn director Spike Lee.

It seems like only yesterday that Brooklyn Review was making its grand premiere in August of 2000. If you want to take a walk to that time, take a look at our Brooklyn Review August 2000 archive (make sure you’ve got your Windows Video Player ready to fire up). It’s interesting to take a look at what was going on 9 years ago: Brooklyn Height’s Clark St. subway station reopened, Congressional incumbent Major Owens was up for re-election in Bed-Stuy with Councilwoman Una Clark challenging him for the position and the Brooklyn Jobs Corps opened in Bed-Stuy.

It’s easy to compare the most recent milestone for Brooklyn Review to its 2000 series premiere. Yes, the production value has improved, but having a valued interest in the issues, communities and people remains the same. Brooklyn Review remains the only bi-monthly news magazine strictly dedicated to the people, the politics, the places, and events of Brooklyn.

So happy 200th episode, Brooklyn Review! May the next 200 be just as great.
